Pennine View School Vacancies:

Job Title: Teacher of Design Technology and Outdoor Learning

MPS/UPS + 1 SEN

The Governing Body is looking to appoint an inspirational and energetic Teacher to work alongside our wonderful staff and even more impressive pupils during an exciting time of growth and change.

We are looking for a strong teacher who is a team player with a good sense of humour and enjoys a challenge. We want someone who is an experienced DT teacher and who has the ability and passion to create an ‘Outdoor Learning Curriculum’ which is a new development for us.

Our School

Pennine View School provides learning for 120 pupils across the Doncaster area and from our neighbouring local authorities. Each pupils needs are carefully and sensitively addressed, within the context of a well-developed curriculum.

We are designated as a specialist provision for pupils with Moderate Learning Difficulties. Pupils at Pennine View have a range of difficulties, including physical, communication, specific and general learning difficulties, ASD, ADHD, moderate learning difficulties and associated emotional and behavioural and difficulties which impact on their ability to learn and make progress.

We look forward to meeting you.

Our academy

Nexus Multi Academy Trust was founded in 2016 and we have the highest ambitions possible for anyone and everyone we work with.

The vision for Nexus is that we are constantly “Learning together; to be the best we can be.”

This vision is what we aspire for and is as relatable to every employee and partner of our Trust as it is to our children, young adults and their families.

Pennine View is one of four specialist schools in the Trust within Rotherham and Doncaster.

Our curriculum

The curriculum at Pennine View incorporates all parts of the school day including break and lunch times for example. All these times are important opportunities for all our staff to teach our pupils the skills that they need to be successful when they leave Pennine View.

Our Pennine View Curriculum is based on the National Curriculum but at a level and pace appropriate to the needs of our pupils and is underpinned by recognition of the importance of other skills too, such as independence, social skills, communication, employability, SMSC. Planning approaches ensure that all pupils can take part in lessons fully and effectively.

Our technology curriculum

We have developed a Technology curriculum based on the National Curriculum but tailored for the needs of our pupils. The system in Lower School (Year 3 to Year 8) enables our pupils to have rich experiences of different technological and craft areas. DT is taught on a carousel rotation, half termly.

At Upper School we are continually adapting the curriculum to meet the needs of pupils. We use technology as an enrichment activity and also offer accreditation courses through NCFE and AQA Units.

We believe that the subject must ‘enable’ our pupils and foster the development of their skills and creativity whilst improving their self-esteem. We are keen that it moves with the times so that we help our pupils ‘access’ the emerging world out there.

We try to augment the relevant traditional aspects with what may be termed 21st Century Technologies such as a laser engraving machine, DMX stage lighting systems and have recently acquired a 3D printer and scanner. These technologies help develop pupil’s knowledge and understanding of control systems and provide greater potential for pupils to easily produce artefacts of high quality that motivate them and foster high self–esteem.

Our Outdoor Learning Curriculum

This is a new area of curriculum development at Pennine View. We recognise that our pupils learn best in hands-on, practical activities and we want to facilitate personalised learning opportunities outside the confines of the classroom. We aim to:

  • develop personal, social and emotional skills
  • develop levels of communication, social interaction and independence
  • encourage and inspire individuals to engage with the ‘outdoors’
  • provide engaging and motivating achievable activities over a period of time
  • promote an increased sense of responsibility and understanding of the world
  • foster healthy connections with nature
  • provide a multi-sensory and inclusive ethos

Come join our team

Aside from the opportunity to work with pupils whose energy, creativity and enthusiasm never fail to inspire, at Pennine View we:

    • provide a culture that places the individual child at its heart
    • a “high energy” and rewarding place to work and our staff make daily positive impact upon our pupils
    • are committed to teacher development through our own CPD programme and also through professional learning programmes in partnership with Learners First
    • value the importance of working with families and outside agencies to ensure the best outcomes for our pupils
    • place wellbeing at the centre of our work and we strive to ensure that children and adults learn in a safe, supported, nurturing environment, where they feel confident, worthy, enthusiastic and valued.

  • Parent Governor Vacancy

We have 2 vacancies for parents on the Governing Body at Pennine View School. I have listed below a little more detail to explain what the role involves.

    The Role of Governors:
The role of governors has become increasingly important, especially with the increasing independence of schools as well as the increased scrutiny and accountability of schools and school leaders. As Governors we are not there to manage day to day running of the school – that is the job of the Headteacher. We are there to do three main things
    (1) To help set the vision and strategic direction of the school
    (2) To hold the Headteacher to account for the school’s performance
    (3) To monitor the curriculum provision and teaching and learning in school.
Another common way of putting the role of Governors is to say that our job is to provide a healthy mix of support and challenge.

    Time Commitment:
We meet as a full governing body 9.30am – 11.30am three times a term. The meetings run within the school day. In addition to the meetings, we require governors to come in to school, usually in the school day, over the course of the year, to meet with their link member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). These visits usually focus on an aspect of school development. Governors try to attend various school events and may be called upon for other tasks such as; sitting on senior appointment panels or giving particular attention to a specific issue or policy. As well as these activities there is quite a bit to read and most importantly there is an expectation that Governors will attend training sessions in order to ensure that they are up to date on such things as school performance data, finance, special educational needs, keeping children safe at school to list but a few. A comprehensive induction programme is provided. A term of office is for four years. There is also a legal duty for employers to allow you reasonable time off work to attend the meetings.

    Eligibility:
Anyone who has a child on the roll of the school at the time of the election is eligible to stand.
If you are still interested after reading all of the above, I would encourage you to consider putting yourself forward as a candidate. If you would like to speak with me about the role I can also be contacted via the school office.

    Nomination Process:
If you do wish to put yourself forward you will need to complete a nomination form which is available on the school website and attached to this letter. You will need to produce a short written statement in support of your nomination. Nomination forms must be returned to the school on Friday 21st December at 10.00am.

    Election Process:
If there are more than two candidates an election will be held and this will take place. More details will follow on this should the school need to initiate an election process. As we are close to the end of term, this will take place in the Spring Term 2019.

I hope this is helpful in helping you decide whether or not you wish to stand as a Parent Governor. We would like you to play your part in helping Pennine View School on its journey of continuous improvement to be the best school it can be!
